USS Yorktown and Aquarium

One of the many things that students at Lake Carolina look forward to in fifth grade is our Charleston Field Study.
This field study ties into our Ecosystems and Mixtures/Solutions unit and also ties into our World War II and Cold War Social Studies units. At the USS Yorktown, students have the opportunity to tour the WWII aircraft carrier, a Cold War Submarine, separate the salt from ocean water, and learn how erosion and deposition affect our shores in South Carolina. After leaving the USS Yorktown, the students will visit historic downtown Charleston for lunch, then to the aquarium.  At the aquarium, students will learn about the predators and prey and will have the opportunity to touch and hold several aquatic animals such as a horseshoe crab and rays. This is such a funfilled and exciting trip for our young fifth grade leaders. Please let us know if you would like to chaperone this field study and join in on the fun.
