Lake Carolina Health Room

Welcome to the Health Room at Lake Carolina Elementary. It is staffed by a full-time Health Room Assistant, Mrs. Donna Chandler, and a full-time Registered Nurse, Mrs. Kathy Waldrep, R.N., B.S.N.

Mrs. Chandler provides first aid, care, and comfort to students with illness or injury. She administers medications to students as designated by district policies, maintains Health Room records, and refers students with more involved health needs to the School Nurse. She communicates with parents as needed regarding their child’s health status. Mrs. Chandler also serves as the director of the aftercare program at Lake Carolina.

Mrs. Waldrep provides nursing assessment, treatment, and referral, as necessary, for students with more complex health needs or chronic health conditions. She also performs health screenings, monitors immunizations, medications, communicable diseases, and provides a variety of student and employee health services. She provides training for employees regarding Bloodborne Pathogens and implements the District Exposure Contol Plan when necessary. She provides guidance and instruction to the Health Room Assistant and other staff involved in the care of students with special health needs. The nurse also is responsible for creating and implementing Individual Health Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic medical conditions.

Both Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Waldrep are CPR and AED certified and serve as members of the Lake Carolina Emergency Team. They are also members of the Lake Carolina School Health Council that addresses the health , nutrition, and well being of all students. Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Waldrep love providing Gator-Aid to all of the Lake Carolina Gators.
